FSF News: GNU Boot joins FSF fiscal sponsorship program

BOSTON, Massachusetts, USA (Monday, September 14, 2026), — The Free Software Foundation (FSF) announced today that GNU Boot is its latest fiscally sponsored project. GNU Boot is a libre, ethical replacement for the nonfree BIOS or UEFI, which is software found in virtually all personal computers in the world today.

Simon Josefsson: Soft-launching the DiffOS project

Today marks the day of soft-launching of my Debian derivative, which I’ve been using on several of my own machines for the past year or so. This is still work in progress, but I wanted to establish a launch date of the project so below is the DiffOS manifesto as motivation for continued work.

GNU Taler news: Book chapter on Taler as sCBDC technology published

The recently published Springer book "Tokenisation of Money: From Fiat Currencies to Stablecoins" includes the chapter "Taler as a synthetic Central Bank Digital Currency" by Christian Grothoff, Mikolai Gütschow and Valentin Seehausen. It discusses the potentials and benefits of GNU Taler as a technological enabler for privately issued CBDCs.
